Recent speculation regarding the cancellation of Shang-Chi 2 was dispelled by Marvel Studios star Simu Liu, who confirmed that the film's sequel is still in development.

When might Shang-Chi 2 come out?

Liu, who achieved great success as Shang-Chi in the film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, addressed the rumors during a discussion on Threads. This came in response to fan concerns after comments from Disney CEO Bob Iger fueled speculation about the possibility of the project's cancellation. The first Shang-Chi film, released in 2021, was widely praised for its representativeness and expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The plot, in fact, revealed crucial details about the figure of Xu Wenwu and the organization of the Ten Rings.

Despite the lack of details regarding the character's future following his debut, Liu reassured fans by confirming that Shang-Chi is still in development. The sequel will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who will return after the success of the first film. While production details on the sequel are scarce, Liu will likely reprise his role as Shang-Chi, joined by other original cast members such as Awkwafina, Meng'er Zhang, and Benedict Wong.

If confirmed, the sequel could be included in future MCU plans, with a potential release before the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga in 2027. Marvel Studios has release slots available in their future schedules, and Shang-Chi could fill one of these empty spaces.
