Jack Black returns to action in the first official trailer for Kung Fu Panda 4, just released by Dreamworks Animation. The animated film sees the famous actor return to voice Po in the next chapter of his journey which, already from these first images, promises to be a lot of fun. Viola Davis has joined the cast of the animated franchise as the villain, called “The Chameleon.” Awkafina also joins the cast, as a fox named Zhen, along with Ke Huy Quan as the thief Han.

In Kung Fu Panda 4 Po becomes a "spiritual master" and searches for a new hero who can become the next Dragon Warrior. From this synopsis it can be seen that this fourth chapter - announced in August 2022 - was conceived to present to the public a new protagonist of the franchise, keeping Po as a secondary character. The Kung Fu Panda franchise launched in 2008, with two sequels released, the latest of which was in 2016. Four short films, a television special, and three different TV series have also been made. Jack Black has been the voice of Po in feature films and some video game adaptations, but the other projects required another voice actor.

Kung Fu Panda 4 will be released in cinemas in March 2024: The trailer and plot

After three dangerous adventures in which he defeated high-level villains with his unmatched courage and insane martial arts skills, Po, the Dragon Warrior (Golden Globe nominee Jack Black), is called by fate to… take a break. More specifically, he was chosen to become the spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace. This poses a couple of obvious problems. First, Po knows as much about spiritual leadership as he does about diet, and second, he must quickly find and train a new Dragon Warrior before he can assume his new position.

As if that wasn't enough, there was a sighting of an evil and powerful witch, Chameleon (Oscar winner Viola Davis), a small lizard who can transform into any creature, large or small. And Chameleon set his greedy little eyes on Po's Staff of Wisdom, which would give her the power to re-summon all the villains Po defeated in the Spirit Realm. Po will need help. He finds it (sort of?) in the form of the cunning and quick-witted thief Zhen (Golden Globe winner Awkwafina), a fox who always annoys Po but whose skills will prove invaluable. In their mission to protect the Valley of Peace from Chameleon's reptilian claws, this comical odd couple will have to work together. In the process, Po will discover that heroes can be found in the most unexpected places.
