Fahadh Faasil Confirms ‘Aavesham 2’ and a Villainous Turn in ‘Patriot’

The question that has dogged Fahadh Faasil at every red carpet & charity event for the last couple of years has finally found an answer. Speaking at a public event in Kerala yesterday, Fahadh at last broke his silence - confirming that a sequel to his 2024 smash hit Aavesham is indeed in the pipeline. Although the actor played along with some good natured joking about getting asked non-stop about Ranga's return wherever he goes, he did tell his fans to hang in there. And as for when we can expect to see Ranga once again - forget about it, Bengaluru won't be stormed by the all-white-clad gangster again until either 2027 or 2028.

The delay is not just about Fahadh's packed schedule - it's also down to what's going on with director Jithu Madhavan. Madhavan is currently knee deep in production for Suriya 47, a high-octane cop action-comedy starring Suriya, and that film has already caused a sensation with a 70 crore rights deal even before its release. Once Madhavan sees Suriya 47 through, he'll be turning his attention back to Fahadh & the Mollywood underworld to pen Ranga's next chapter.

But we don't have to wait until 2027 to see Fahadh in a big, showy role. He casually dropped the news about his next release - Patriot, coming out on April 23rd. And this one is a doozy - it's being pitched as the biggest Malayalam multi-starrer since Twenty:20, and Fahadh will be appearing alongside the twin pillars of Mollywood - the legendary Mammootty and Mohanlal. The twist is he isn't joining their team in this one. "I play the bad guy in Patriot', Fahadh let on - and - just to add some more spice to the mix - he'll be the primary antagonist in Mahesh Narayanan's spy thriller.

For those who missed the original Aavesham (which is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video if you want to go back and see it), the film followed three engineering students whose lives were completely turned upside down by Faasil's Ranga. With Patriot just a few weeks away now, & the Aavesham sequel officially on the calendar, Fahadh is once again proving that he has no interest in being a traditional hero - his sights are firmly set on shaking things up & being the industry's most interesting disruptor.
