Searchlight Pictures is diving back into the deadly game with Ready or Not: Here I Come, the sequel to 2019’s cult horror-comedy hit Ready or Not. Announced on April 21, 2025, by The Hollywood Reporter, the film has officially begun production in Toronto, reuniting star Samara Weaving with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence. The follow-up boasts a killer cast, including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, Kathryn Newton, Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, and horror legend David Cronenberg. With a script by returning writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, Ready or Not: Here I Come promises another twisted, bloody ride, building on the original’s $57 million global haul on a $6 million budget.

The 2019 film saw Weaving as Grace, a bride thrust into a lethal game of hide-and-seek by her new husband’s cursed, wealthy family, delivering a darkly funny thrill ride that became a fan favorite. The new title, Ready or Not: Here I Come, completes the hide-and-seek phrase, hinting at a continuation of Grace’s story after her explosive survival in the original. Searchlight’s Matthew Greenfield fueled anticipation, stating, “We’re beyond excited to make another film with the phenomenal Radio Silence. With Ready or Not: Here I Come, we get to go on another ride with the amazing Samara Weaving, mix in awesome new voices, and bring audiences a fresh take that’s every bit as twisted and fun as the first one.”

While plot details remain tightly under wraps, speculation is rife about where Grace’s journey could go. The first film’s fiery finale left her as the sole survivor of the Le Domas family’s demonic pact. Gellar and Wood, genre veterans from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Lord of the Rings, add serious star power, while Cronenberg’s involvement as an actor is a wild card, given his horror directing legacy.

Radio Silence, also behind Scream (2022) and Scream VI, has a knack for blending gore and wit, and their return has fans buzzing.  The production team includes producers Tripp Vinson, James Vanderbilt, Bradley J. Fischer, and William Sherak, with Weaving, Chad Villella, and others as executive producers, ensuring continuity with the original’s vision. Filming in Toronto, with locations like a former church in Hamilton, adds a creepy vibe to the project’s early days.

No release date has been set, but with cameras rolling and a cast this stacked, Ready or Not: Here I Come is shaping up to be a worthy successor.
