Marvel fans were disappointed that the Venom 3 trailer "spoiled" the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Marvel fans were left somewhat confused following the appearance of a certain character in the first official trailer for Venom 3, officially titled Venom: The Last Dance, released yesterday (Wednesday, June 3). The Sony film is the third and final installment of the Spider-Man spin-off series starring Tom Hardy.

Because Sony exclusively owned the rights to the Spider-Man characters, their films typically took place away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but as licensing deals changed, the studios began to collaborate. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Hardy appeared in a mid-credits scene set in the MCU, and now, in the trailer for Venom: The Last Dance, another MCU character has appeared in the same location. However, his inclusion doesn't seem to make sense to fans.

In the trailer, Chiwetel Ejiofor reprises his role as Karl Mordo, who was introduced in Doctor Strange and returned as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But the character is very far from the one seen in the Doctor Strange franchise, as he wears military gear and leads a band of agents to capture Venom. This indicates that he is playing a completely different version of the character.

This confused fans, because Mordo appears in the trailer in the same bar where Tom Hardy appeared in the post-credits scenes of Spider-Man: No Way Home, meaning that this film is, theoretically, set at internal of the MCU and that Mordo should be the same character we have seen previously, and not an "alternative version" of him.

Fans have subsequently deduced that the film is not set in the MCU, but that Mordo's alternate appearance at the bar is simply a continuity error. After seeing the trailer, many expressed their confusion online.
